As recommended due to the durability and life most of our outdoor joinery projects are made from pressure treated softwood, cedar and in a small number of cases if your budget can stretch then teak is an option.  Andrew Bennett Joinery only recommends other hardwoods for outdoor use if you can look after them very well, whereas pressure trated softwood and cedar require no maintanence and will weather well.
